What happens in step 2?

Here’s what your PCDA training includes.

Your first 13 weeks

Personal protection, driver and systems training, plus classroom learning at HQ and UWE Bristol.

Learning on the job

Move into a 24/7 response team and put your knowledge and practical skills into practice.

Supported development

Learn with support from tutors, trainers and experienced officers throughout the programme.

Academic study
  • Complete four modules each year over the three-year programme
  • Study crime, law, vulnerability and risk, occupational competency and evidence-based policing
  • Work towards a degree in Professional Policing Practice

Operational learning
  • Put your learning into practice with an operational policing team
  • Work a 24/7 response shift pattern during tutorship
  • Build confidence and experience throughout the job

Protected learning time
  • Receive at least 20% off-the-job protected learning within your contracted work time
  • Use protected time for academic study and assignments
  • The majority of your time is spent building competence in the role
